Wilier Triestina was born in 1906 with the name of Wilier, thanks to the idea of a businessman from Bassano, Pietro Dal Molin, to build his own bicycles. His forge of "steel horses" stands like a small laboratory on the banks of the Brenta, in Bassano del Grappa, and its success increases hand in hand with the ever-increasing demand for bicycles. For this reason Dal Molin decides to set up a professional team led by Giordano Cottur from Trieste, known for having succeeded none other than Gino Bartali in the Bassano-Monte Grappa for amateurs. In the same period, on the wave of popular sentiment of apprehension for the fate of Trieste, Dal Molin decided to associate the name of the Julian city with the name of his company. Thus, in the autumn of 1945 , Wilier Triestina was born, characterized by the red-copper color of its bicycles, which would later become an authentic trademark. In the following seasons the successes of the team, reconfirmed for its excellent performances, won various national competitions with its protagonists until reaching, in '49 and '50, successes in the Tour of Flanders and the Tour of Italy. Unfortunately, after the first exciting phase of national reconstruction in the early 50s we are on the way to the economic miracle. The cycling companies suffer the price of progress which, in 1952, forces Wilier Triestina to close its doors and also to abandon the competitive activity. The glorious history of this company and its "copper jewel" lives on today thanks to the Gastaldello brothers from Rossano Veneto who bought the Wilier Triestina brand in 1969 , returning to supply cycles to dozens of Italian and foreign professional and amateur teams. In the last decade, especially from 2008 to today - strengthened by international cycling successes and ever new models, Wilier Triestina continues to increase and consolidate its presence on the international market, with percentage increases, in terms of turnover and bicycles produced, double digit.
